Week 9 Discussion

Photography Tools and Techniques

Over the past 9 weeks you have explored the tools and techniques of photography. In this final discussion give us the top three techniques you used to capture solid compositions. Then tell us three things that you found the most difficult. Finally share with us how you think these skills will benefit you in your career.

Week 8 Discussion

Progress on Project 3: Studio Shots

This week, share with us your progress and ideas for Project 3, Studio Shots. Describe your audience/client. What objects or products are you shooting? Are any of them proving difficult to photograph, and why? Tell us some of your ideas, and give your classmates some suggestions and feedback about theirs.

In addition, this week you will submit a series of 10 portrait shots. Share with us who you have in mind for your model(s), other than yourself (for your self portrait). Where do you plan to shoot your portrait shots, and what ideas do you have in mind for lighting, angle, background, props, etc.?

Week 7 Discussion

Photo Essays

This week you will create a photo essay. Share your topic with us:
  • Why did you choose this topic?
  • What do you think will make your story original and engaging?
  • What is going to be the most difficult aspect of this project?
  • Based on this weeks reading assignment, how do you plan to archive this project?
  • What kind of questions or concerns do you have?
Also discuss the photo essays you've reviewed. Choose one of the photo essays from the lecture, and discuss the following questions:
  • What themes in style, color, exposure, perspective (or other themes) can you find in the essay?
  • Do you think the essay effectively tells a story, or are there too many photos? Too few photos? Explain your rationale.
  • What other observations do you have?
  • If you have a photo essay you would like to share, please do so (after you answer the first three questions).

Week 6 Discussion

Photographic Collection

This week you are finishing up your thematic photographic collection assignment. The final assignment requires you to consider some key questions so we will use this weeks discussion to help prepare those answers. Please offer up a response to each of the questions below.
Remember you can leverage these answers in your final assignment so apply critical thinking.
  • Are all of your images consistent with your theme?
  • How did you maintain creative and technical consistency? Share your process with us.
  • Did you encounter any obstacles and how did you get around them?
