Week 5 Discussion

Reflect Back: Lessons Learned

How has poor framing, composition, lighting, color, and/or contrast impacted your photographs up to this point? Did you read any tips in the lectures that helped explain why? Share some issues you've had, and how you plan to address them as you move forward.

    For example:

        * Were any of your photographs too light or too dark? If so, what do you think caused the problem?
        * Did you end up with the compositions and framing you expected? If not, describe what
you captured and how it differs from what you envisioned.
        * Were the colors or contrast in any of your photographs different from what you expected?
If so, why do you think they differed, and what could you do about it in the future?

  1. I've taken a few photos that came out white washed even though the lighting from where I was standing wasn't overbearing. the subjects of the photos were in positioned in direct light causing a whiteout effect which proved to be educational

    1. I have also taken some pictures that were washed out and it was due to the intensity of the sunlight bouncing off the concrete and metal surfaces. I made adjustments to camera, but it was hard to compensate for the sunlight.

  2. Before I learned these concepts I usually rushed in taking a picture and didn't know all the capabilities a camera has to aid us in taking pictures. Poor framing, composition, lighting, color, and/ or contrast has enabled me to take more efficient photos that look more dynamic and appeal to the viewer. After reading the chapters In the book, I have become more informed to the proper way we can take an image using cameras. Reading the tips and suggestions that were given in the book has allowed me to become better at taking pictures. Some of the issues I had trouble with was how to focus and frame the images and I also didn't pay much attention to the importance of how light can influence an image. The way I plan to address these issues is to taken my time, utilize all the tools I have at my disposal with the camera I am using and take many images at different angles. Moving forward I plan to keep myself informed to the new techniques and equipment available that can enhance my shooting of images. another thing I can do moving forward is that I can keep practicing to become more comfortable and use to taking pictures.

    1. I agree with you about the Rule of Three principle,Stevie. The Rule helps me break down my subject into triangular sections and lets me hone in on the most important focal point of my photograph.

  4. Many of the techniques I've heard about but didn't truly know what the meant now I know what they are and how to use them. which has improved what I know about photography

  5. I think the most improvement ive made thanks to the lessons ive had have to be lighting. Ive learned how shutter time as well as exposure can not only affect the white balance of the picture but may also cause clipping. Iy is also important to have the right iso in order to make sure the colors are accurate, unless the intent is to make the picture appear cooler or warmer.

    1. I've actually learned a lot more about shutter time as well as the ISO sensitivity. It definitely matters on not only the overall composition but also the colors in the photographs, which can be muddy depending on light, exposure, etc.
